What we stand for
Why Harper exists, what it believes, and how its people work.
Why we exist.
Our purpose
Our mission
Our vision
The company gets faster. Every person levels up.
Nine convictions, and everything else follows from them.
The system takes the work, and the person moves up
Every job comes with work that has to get done, and it fills the day. The more valuable things a person could do — think further ahead, see what is coming, make the work itself better — never get started, because there was never time for them.
The system takes that work on, piece by piece, and each piece it takes frees the person for something more valuable than what they were doing before.
The work that goes first is not the boring work. It is the work that matters, and that is what makes room for something better.
This never settles
The system keeps getting good at things it could not do reliably before, including work we assumed needed a person.
So the person keeps moving up. There is no point where this settles, and no version of the job that stays fixed.
The model is not the bottleneck
Agents fail without curated knowledge, behavioral rules, a systematic workflow, and real domain expertise. Better models do not fix that.
Two hard problems sit underneath. Building the structure that makes intelligence reliable, and capturing the expertise that fills it — what a company’s best people know and how they actually work. Both are what we sell.
One person using AI and a company running on AI are different things
A capable person with Claude can build a great deal alone. What they cannot do is make the company smarter. Everyone stays in their own conversation, nothing compounds, and a dozen people each work their own way.
The operating system turns individual use into something shared: common methods, one record, knowledge that every person’s work feeds. What one person builds, the next inherits.
The knowledge is the asset, and it belongs to the client
The technology gets cheaper and better every month. What a company knows — how its best people work — gets more valuable every month.
So we capture it, keep it trained, and hand it over. The license is perpetual, the system lives in the client’s own repository, and it runs on a foundation they can move off.
Knowledge compounds when it is pruned, not hoarded
The system improves because corrections, decisions, and lessons get curated back in. Not because everything is saved. A knowledge base that keeps everything is one nobody trusts.
Harper runs on harperOS
Harper is the company. harperOS is the product. We run the company on the product — the same workspace, the same agents, the same rules.
Everything we tell a client is true is something we operate ourselves. We hit the rough edges before a client does.
We live above every new capability
The frontier moves constantly. We fold it in continually rather than chasing it in bursts, and each new capability makes everything already built better.
The simplest system that works is the right one
Kill what is not fundamental. Anything not load-bearing adds noise, complexity, and something else to break. The bar is the densest version that cannot be made tighter.
Seven principles, from the one everything rests on down to the daily ones.
Do what’s right
In almost any choice there is one option you already know is right. Ask the question honestly and nearly everything resolves.
There is no gradient on one part of this: mistakes are fine, hiding one is not. You will get things wrong, especially early. Say so quickly, to the person who needs to know.
Care about people, and build the relationship
Want the best for the people you work with. Help, be there, be supportive, and have some empathy for what a person is going through.
Value the relationship over the transaction. Time spent with a client is never lost time, and no one-time win is worth damaging a relationship for.
This matters more as AI does more of the work, not less. You will change jobs and do a hundred different things. The relationships are what last, and they are how people remember you.
Client satisfaction is the real currency
Not revenue, not shipped features, not how clever the build was. Whether the client is genuinely better off, and knows it.
A system that works and a client who does not feel held is a failure with good uptime.
Be clear on the goal, and on what great looks like
Before starting anything, know what you are trying to achieve and what a great outcome would be.
This matters more when you work through agents. A vague goal produces confident, fast, wrong work, and you drift a long way before noticing. You hold the goal. Nothing else in the system can hold it for you.
Solve the problem, from first principles
Solving problems is the job. Everything else is a means to it.
Break the problem down to its bones, then rebuild from there. Reaching straight for complexity that technically works and nobody can maintain is the failure to avoid.
Own your outcomes, and do the work
Nobody will chase you, count your hours, or manage you into it. You run your own business and answer for what you deliver.
You are also not alone in it. Ask for help, give it, and hand back the best version the group can produce rather than the best version you can produce alone. Ownership without the team is a silo. A team without ownership is a committee.
Do the work, including when it is hard, unglamorous, or nobody is watching.
Ask
Early, often, and without apologizing.
The cost of a question is a minute of someone’s time. The cost of guessing on a client system is the client. New people over-index on looking capable. The fastest way to look capable here is to ask the thing you do not know and then never need to ask it again.
Three things you can count on.
No clock-watching
We pay for outcomes, not attendance. Manage your own hours and your own rhythm.
Say the true size of the thing
Honest estimates, honest scope, honest state of play. Hedge the facts, never the commitment.
No one is surprised by us
Pre-frame, flag early, close the loop nobody asked you to close.
Alignment on the work is not enough. We look for people who are aligned on why it matters.
